Hi Lo Adjustable Beds in Brisbane
A hospital-grade bed that doesn't look like one — delivered to your Brisbane home
When a family member starts needing help in and out of bed, most Brisbane families are offered the same thing: a steel-framed hospital bed that turns a bedroom into a ward. The Sophie HiLo Adjustable Bed takes a different path. The whole bed rises electrically to a comfortable working height for a carer, then lowers right down for safe transfers and a reduced fall height — and it does all of this while looking like beautiful bedroom furniture.
Alongside the height adjustment, the head and foot sections adjust independently with a wireless remote that stores preset positions, so sitting up for breakfast or raising tired legs takes one touch. We deliver and professionally install the HiLo free of charge across Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, and our team demonstrates everything to you and your carer before we leave.
What is a HiLo bed and who is it for?
A HiLo (high–low) bed adds whole-bed height adjustment to everything a standard adjustable bed already does. That one extra capability changes daily life for two groups of people at once: the person sleeping in the bed, and the person caring for them.
In Brisbane homes, we most often deliver HiLo beds for an ageing parent determined to stay in their own house, for someone managing a progressive condition such as Parkinson's or MS, for palliative care at home, and for people whose partner has quietly become their carer. If an occupational therapist has used the words "height-adjustable bed" in an assessment, this is the category they mean — a standard adjustable base, however comfortable, doesn't satisfy that recommendation because it cannot raise or lower the whole platform.
Safer transfers and falls prevention
Lowered close to the floor, the HiLo dramatically reduces the distance of any fall overnight. Raised to the right height for the individual, it makes standing transfers easier on hips and knees, and gives a wheelchair user a level, predictable surface to move across. Occupational therapists frequently recommend height-adjustable beds precisely because so many falls and injuries happen during the simple act of getting in and out of bed.
The wireless remote's preset positions matter here too. A person with limited grip strength or early dementia doesn't need to hold buttons and judge angles: one press returns the bed to their programmed sleeping height, another brings it to their safest exit height. We set these presets up during installation, tuned to the individual's leg length and transfer style, so the bed is genuinely usable from the first night.
For carers: working height without back strain
If you help someone dress, reposition or manage personal care in bed, you know what bending over a low mattress does to your back. Pressing one button brings the entire bed up to your working height. Carers tell us this is the feature that keeps them caring at home for longer — it protects the helper as much as the person being helped.
Coming home from hospital in Brisbane?
Many of our Brisbane customers first hear the words "height-adjustable bed" from a discharge planner or ward OT. If that is where you are right now, we can take the logistics off your plate.
Discharge-ready delivery — installed before they're home
Whether your family member is leaving the RBWH, Princess Alexandra, Greenslopes or Sunshine Coast University Hospital, tell us the expected discharge date and we will arrange the bed around it. Our team delivers, assembles the bed professionally in the bedroom, demonstrates the remote and presets to the family, and takes every scrap of packaging away. If you are organising this for a parent from interstate, the entire process can be handled with us over the phone on 1300 9 SLEEP.
Working with your occupational therapist
We speak directly with hospital and community OTs, discharge planners and case managers every week. We can supply detailed product specifications, prepare a written quote for a funding application, and answer clinical questions about transfer heights and pressure care so your therapist can complete their recommendation quickly.
Built for Queensland sleeping — the RMIT-tested Hygroflex mattress
A height-adjustable base solves the transfer problem; the mattress determines how well you actually sleep on it. Every Sophie HiLo includes our four-layer Australian-made mattress topped with Hygroflex®, and it was developed with Brisbane-style sleeping conditions very much in mind.
Humidity, heat and pressure care
Queensland's warm, humid nights are hard work for traditional memory foam, which traps heat and moisture against the skin — a genuine concern for anyone spending long hours in bed. In independent testing by RMIT University's School of Engineering, the Hygroflex layer showed up to 67% better body conformity, 32% better pressure reduction and 27% faster heat release than traditional memory foams, and required less than half the turning force — meaning it is easier to change position unassisted. For people at elevated pressure-injury risk, it pairs naturally with our air mattress range, and your OT can advise which option suits the care plan.
Why does this matter more on a HiLo bed than an ordinary one? Because HiLo users typically spend more hours in bed than the average sleeper — resting through the day, recovering, or living with reduced mobility. The longer the hours, the more the mattress surface, not just the frame, determines skin health and sleep quality. A clever base with a mediocre mattress is half a solution; we don't sell halves.
NDIS and Support-at-Home funding in Queensland
Most HiLo beds we deliver in Brisbane are partly or fully funded, and helping you through that process is part of what we do.
What your plan can cover
The Sophie HiLo is NDIS-approved assistive technology, and for older Queenslanders, Support at Home (through My Aged Care) funds equipment under the AT-HM scheme — the high tier covers up to $15,390, which is enough for every HiLo configuration. We prepare the quote and paperwork, liaise directly with plan managers and providers, can invoice your provider directly, and supply DVA documentation on request.
In practice the process usually runs like this: your OT or assessor identifies the need, you or the therapist calls us for a written quote and specifications, we send the documentation to whoever manages the funding, and once it's approved we schedule delivery. Families are often surprised how little of this lands on them — the phone calls between us, the OT and the plan manager are our job, not yours.
Free delivery and installation across South East Queensland
Delivery and professional in-home assembly are free — not free-with-conditions, free everywhere in Australia including regional areas. For our Queensland customers that means one team, one visit: we carry the bed in, build it, set your preset positions, show you and your carer how everything works, and leave the room tidy.
Because we service all of Queensland from the road rather than from a shopfront, families split across the state can still organise everything together. A daughter on the Gold Coast, a son in Cairns and a mum in Caboolture can be on one phone call with us, and the bed arrives where it's needed with everyone informed.
Areas we deliver
- Brisbane North and South — every suburb
- Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast
- Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay and Redlands
- Toowoomba and the Darling Downs
- Regional and rural Queensland — yes, genuinely free there too
The visit itself is unhurried: assembly in the bedroom, presets programmed for the person using the bed, a proper walkthrough of every function for the user and their carer, and all the packaging gone when we leave.
Why Brisbane families choose Sophie over a showroom
Several Brisbane competitors sell hi-lo beds from showrooms or vans; we deliberately do neither. Instead of asking someone with limited mobility to travel across town, we run an unhurried phone consultation to understand the care situation, then bring the bed to the bedroom it will live in — installed, demonstrated and ready to sleep in that night. You judge the bed where it matters, in your own home.
The bundle-and-discount selling common in this market is the other thing we've opted out of. There is no countdown timer on this page and no "today only" package price — just a well-made bed, a tested mattress, and services (delivery, installation, demonstration, funding paperwork) that are simply included rather than dangled as bonuses.
We are equally straightforward about price. The figures below are published, not "call for pricing", because with funding explained honestly a premium bed is usually far more attainable than families expect. Sleep Sophie is rated 4.8 from 223 reviews on ProductReview.com.au and 4.6 from 90 Google reviews.
“Everything about this purchase, from initial enquiry, to the ongoing customer service, through purchase, arranging delivery and installation has been so easy! Everyone at Sleep Sophie has been a pleasure to deal with. The bed itself is awesome.”

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a HiLo bed delivered before my parent is discharged from a Brisbane hospital?
Yes. Tell us the expected discharge date and we will arrange the bed to be delivered, professionally assembled and demonstrated so everything is ready when they arrive home. Interstate family members can organise the whole process with us by phone on 1300 975 337.
Is a HiLo adjustable bed covered by NDIS in Queensland?
The Sophie HiLo is NDIS-approved assistive technology, so it can be funded through an NDIS plan where the bed meets the participant's assessed needs. We prepare the quote and supporting paperwork, talk directly with your occupational therapist and plan manager, and can invoice your provider directly.
Do you deliver and install on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast?
Yes. Delivery and professional in-home assembly are free everywhere in Australia, including the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba and regional Queensland. Our team sets the bed up, demonstrates everything to you and your carer, and removes all the packaging.
Can my occupational therapist arrange a trial or assessment?
We work directly with occupational therapists every week. Your OT can call us on 1300 975 337 to discuss specifications, request a written quote and supporting documentation for a funding application, or arrange a phone consultation together with you and your family.
How is a HiLo bed different from a hospital bed hire in Brisbane?
Hired hospital beds suit short-term recovery, but they look institutional and the rental cost keeps running. For ongoing needs, buying usually wins: the Sophie HiLo looks like bedroom furniture, includes an RMIT-tested pressure-care mattress, and NDIS or Support-at-Home funding generally covers purchase rather than open-ended hire.
How long does delivery to Brisbane take?
We schedule delivery around you rather than to a fixed timetable, and we can coordinate installation to line up with a hospital discharge date. Call 1300 975 337 and we will confirm the current schedule for your suburb.
